FaZe Kay
Save the Kids Token Pump and Dump
The Save the Kids token was supposed to be different. Promoted by multiple members of FaZe Clan, one of the most recognized gaming and entertainment organizations in the world, the token was marketed with a charitable angle -- a crypto project that would support children in need. FaZe Kay, one of the most prominent members of the organization, led the promotional push, presenting the token to his millions of followers as both a good investment and a good deed. The reality was the opposite.
Coffeezilla's investigation into the token blew the scheme wide open. Through meticulous on-chain analysis, he demonstrated that the token's anti-dump protections -- features that were supposed to prevent exactly the kind of insider selling that would crash the price -- had been modified or removed before launch. This meant that while retail buyers were locked into holding the token by artificial friction, insiders faced no such barriers. Within hours of launch, FaZe Kay and other promoters sold their holdings at peak prices while the token's value collapsed for everyone else.
The scandal had immediate consequences for FaZe Kay. FaZe Clan removed him from the organization, a significant blow to his career given that the FaZe brand was central to his identity and content. The incident also drew scrutiny to the broader pattern of gaming influencers promoting crypto tokens to their young audiences, many of whom had no experience with investing and trusted their favorite creators implicitly. The charitable framing made it worse -- people who might have been skeptical of a straightforward crypto promotion let their guard down because they believed they were supporting a good cause.
The Save the Kids scandal became one of the most cited examples of influencer-driven pump and dump schemes in the cryptocurrency space. It demonstrated how the mechanics of trust in the creator economy could be weaponized: take a figure beloved by young fans, wrap a financial product in a layer of social good, extract profit for insiders, and leave the audience holding the bag. FaZe Kay's removal from FaZe Clan was a form of accountability, but for the fans who lost money, it came after the damage was already done.
